The Northcliff Masjid, is based in the Northcliff suburb and has been recently constructed. In the same location a Jamaat Khana once existed, ordinarily giving rise to the construction of the Mosque when enough money was collected. Northcliff was historically a "white" area. This area together with the suburbs alongside it over the past 10 or so years has seen a surge in the number of Muslims moving in.
The main reasons would include, good schools, reduced traffic to both Sandton and the Johannesburg CBD and being within close proximity to shopping centres like Cresta, Worldware et al. I also consider Northcliff to be an area where one can easily say that " I have arrived in life". To get a decent property in the area, the minimum one looks at is over the 1.5 Million mark. The Mosque follows a traditional Mosque structure, which includes a dome and a minaret. It also hosts a Madressah and preschool with an Islamic ethos within the complex. I visited this Mosque during Zohr time. At the entrance I was greeted by an elder standing outside who greeted me, asked me who I was and where I was from. This automatically made me feel at home. The atmosphere within the Mosque resembled a strong family atmosphere. Everyone seem to know everyone and I easily stood out. Most of the people I spoke to indicated that they were previously from Mayfair, Lenasia and a few from KZN. I also met a handful of dudes from Egypt and Algeria working and living in the neighborhood.
